Digital health connects people to their health status and healthcare by promoting decision-making, empathetic care delivery, and overall health and wellness awareness, while the pharmacovigilance function collects, analyzes, reports, and seeks to minimize adverse drug events. Arguably the two seem like unlikely partners. In reality, their intersection can form a yin and yang partnership – both aim to optimize the safe and effective use of medicinal therapies through solutions that minimize risks and amplify benefits.
The Benefit Risk Management (BRM) group within AbbVie’s pharmacovigilance organization studies the benefits and risks of new medicinal products during their development and formulates ideas around what, why and how patients and their healthcare providers need to be supported during the care delivery process. AbbVie has worked with Cognizant’s Life Sciences digital innovators to find ways to move these ideas into digital health solutions geared to minimize risks, enable end-to-end care management, and connect patients and providers.
During this virtual discussion, the speakers will talk about this new paradigm, called Digital Risk Management, and how it could foster a new foundational dimension to digital health. They will discuss how the unlikely partners of digital health and pharmacovigilance can become pioneers in a quest to define and promote a new opportunity to leverage digital technology for risk minimization.
Key takeaways:
- Digital health strategy must begin within R&D; the vision of unified patient experience through the value chain can be realized through this approach
- You can reimagine safety as the patient advocate
- Digital health ROI and value amplifies and propagates to clinical and commercial through early investments
