Market Turmoil Overshadows Biotech Successes Life-sciences companies across the globe during 2011 raised $82.4 billion in public financings, up from $65 billion in 2010, according to Burrill & Company. And while the biotech industry in 2011 scored notable victories with major drug approvals, deals, and advancements, global economic worries and political fights over debt in Europe and the U.S. weighed heavily on the industry. Amgen Names New CEO Robert Bradway, currently president and chief operating officer of Amgen, will become CEO of the company in May. He replaces Kevin W. Sharer, who has been chairman and CEO since 2000. Mr. Bradway, 48, joined Amgen in 2006 as a VP in operations. He was appointed CFO in 2007 and was named president and chief operating officer in 2010. Novo Nordisk and Chip Ganassi Racing renew Partnership Novo Nordisk and Chip Ganassi Racing Teams Inc. have announced the multi-year extension of their partnership. Novo Nordisk will remain the primary sponsor of the No. 83 Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing entry, driven by Charlie Kimball — the first licensed driver with type 1 diabetes in INDYCAR. Mr. Kimball uses Novo Nordisk’s Levemir and NovoLog with FlexPen to help manage his diabetes.
