Pharmaceutical POOL Damian BRAGA Sanofi Pasteur Consolidates Commercial Operations Leadership Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccines division of global healthcare company Sanofi, has tapped U.S. President Damian Braga as senior VP, commercial operations, vaccines. Mr. Braga serves as global head of commercial operations, consolidating all of Sanofi Pasteur’s commercial operations. A 23-year veteran with Sanofi Pasteur, Mr. Braga was previously president of Sanofi Pasteur U.S. and VP of Sanofi Pasteur Americas. He received an MBA in finance from Seton Hall University. U.S.-based Astellas Pharma Global Development (APGD) has named Stephen Eck, M.D., Ph.D., VP, head of medical oncology. Dr. Eck joins APGD from Lilly, where he was most recently VP of translational medicine and pharmacogenomics. He received an M.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and a Ph.D. in chemistry from Harvard University. Astellas Pharma Europe (APEL), based in the United Kingdom, has promoted Ken Jones to president and CEO. Mr. Jones was previously APEL’s chief operating officer. He holds an M.Sc. from the London Business School. APGD has appointed Karen Reeves, M.D., as VP, global head of medical science. Dr. Reeves has more than 16 years of experience in Phase I through IV drug development, including a stint as VP at Pfizer. She earned an M.D. from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. At Astellas Pharma US, Mark Reisenauer has been named VP of sales and marketing, oncology. Mr. Reisenauer most recently served as senior VP and chief commercial officer of Micromet. Mark Weinberg, M.D., has joined APGD as therapeutic area head for CNS and pain. Dr. Weinberg most recently worked for Lundbeck, where he focused on CNS. He received an M.D. from Duke University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. Masao Yoshida, former president and CEO of APEL, has been named president and CEO of Astellas Pharma US. Bernhardt Zeiher, M.D., has joined APGD as VP, therapeutic area leader of inflammation, immunology, and infectious diseases. Dr. Zeiher most recently was VP of the inflammation/immunology therapeutic area for Pfizer. He has an M.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Biotechnology POOL Natasha HERNDAY Dr. Eric SIEVERS Seattle Genetics Appoints VPs Seattle Genetics, a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on the development and commercialization of monoclonal antibody-based therapies for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune disease, has named Natasha Hernday VP, corporate development. Ms. Hernday was most recently with Amgen, where she served as a senior member of the mergers and acquisitions team. She received an MBA from Pepperdine University. In other moves, Eric Sievers, M.D., has been promoted to VP, clinical affairs, from executive medical director. Dr. Sievers joined Seattle Genetics in 2006. He received an M.D. from Brown University. Stephen Kelsey, M.D., has been appointed executive VP, head of research and development and chief medical officer. Dr. Kelsey joined Geron in 2009 as executive VP and chief medical officer, oncology. He earned an M.D. at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. Geron has appointed Jane Lebkowski, Ph.D., senior VP and chief scientific officer. Dr. Lebkowski has been with Geron since 1998 and has served as senior VP and chief scientific officer, cell therapies. She received a Ph.D. from Princeton University. He was most recently president and CEO of Transdel Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Neil GIBSON Former Pfizer Executive Joins Regulus as Scientific Chief Regulus Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company leading the discovery and development of innovative medicines targeting microRNAs, appointed Neil Gibson, Ph.D., as chief scientific officer responsible for leading all company research and development efforts. Dr. Parsley joins Aires from Pfizer, where he served as the clinical lead for ongoing clinical trials for Revatio, Pfizer’s approved drug to treat PAH. Kathlene POWELL Raptor Appoints Quality VP Raptor Pharmaceutical has named Kathlene L. Powell to the newly created position of VP, quality operations. Ms. Powell is responsible for overseeing quality assurance and quality control for Raptor, as well as leading chemistry and manufacturing controls-related issues and activities.
