Global healthcare company Johnson & Johnson has appointed Alex Gorsky worldwide chairman, surgical care group, with responsibility for the surgical franchises Ethicon, Ethicon Endo-Surgery, and DePuy, as well as J&J’s medical devices and diagnostics organizations in the Latin America, Europe/Middle East/Africa and Asia Pacific regions. Mr. Gorsky was previously company group chairman and worldwide franchise chairman, Ethicon. In his new role, Mr. Gorsky replaces Sheri McCoy, who has been named worldwide chairman, pharmaceuticals group. Ms. McCoy succeeds Christine Poon, who is retiring from J&J in March 2009. Biotechnology POOL Daniel Junius ImmunoGen President Assumes CEO Role Daniel Junius has assumed the role of president and CEO of ImmunoGen, succeeding Mitchel Sayare, Ph.D., who continues as chairman of the biotechnology firm. Mr. Junius joined ImmunoGen in 2005 and most recently served as president and chief operating officer. He received a master’s in management from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. ImmunoGen develops targeted anticancer therapeutics using its expertise in cancer biology, monoclonal antibodies, and the creation and attachment of potent cell-killing agents. Biopharmaceutical POOL Gustav Christensen Dyax Promotes Business Chief to President, CEO Dyax, a biopharmaceutical company with an emphasis on oncology and inflammatory therapeutics, has promoted Gustav Christensen to succeed cofounder Henry Blair as president and CEO. Mr. Blair remains chairman of Dyax. Mr. Christensen joined Dyax in 2007 as executive VP and chief business officer. He received an M.S. in economics from the University of Aarhus in Denmark and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Dr. Dennis Kim Orexigen Names Head of Obesity Development Orexigen Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company focused on the treatment of obesity and other related disorders, has appointed Dennis Kim, M.D., senior VP and head of obesity and metabolic disorders. Dr. Kim leads the clinical development activities for the company’s obesity franchise. Dr. Kim most recently was chief medical officer and VP of medical affairs for EnteroMedics. He holds an MBA from the Rady School of Management at the University of California, San Diego, and an M.D. from the Chicago Medical School of Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. Dr. Todd Lorenz Former J&J Executive Joins Catalyst as Chief Medical Officer Catalyst Biosciences, a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of engineered proteases known as Alterase therapeutics, has appointed Todd Lorenz, M.D., chief medical officer. Dr. Lorenz was most recently VP and associate therapeutic head for cardiovascular development at Johnson & Johnson. He received an M.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and completed a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Craig Rosen PhaseBio Selects Executive Chairman Craig Rosen, Ph.D., has joined Phase Bioscience (PhaseBio) as executive chairman. Dr. Rosen most recently served as senior VP and chief scientific officer at Teva Biopharmaceuticals USA and remains a consultant for that company. Dr. Richard (Rick) Fuller Oriel Taps Industry Veteran as CEO Oriel Therapeutics, a specialty pharmaceutical company developing and commercializing products to improve respiratory care, has named Richard (Rick) Fuller, M.D., CEO. Dr. Fuller has 30 years of experience in healthcare R&D, most recently as executive VP of research and development for Aerovance. Discovery POOL Adelene Perkins Infinity Pharmaceuticals Promotes Chief Business Officer to President Infinity Pharmaceuticals, which discovers and develops cancer drugs, has promoted Adelene Perkins to president and chief business officer from executive VP and chief business officer.
